SONGS OF RESISTANCE
we are active in running spaces to explore with our audience the concept of song and music as an integral part of resistance. we see this as a nescessary response to living under oppressive systems that seek to homogenise and control. knowing ourselves and where we come from is ever more important in the current world we live in. at the same time, how can we defend this against co-optation by liberalism and nationalism?
‘’folk music’ has a history of being archived in a way that privileges some more than others. there are still existing privileges that exist in the modern music industry that promote and platforms certain voices.
as song writers and singers, we feel it important to be collectively investigating these questions.. through which lens are we looking at our stories? whose story are we telling? why are we sharing it?
